     The Tulare County Sheriff’s Police Activities League (PAL) has been established for over fourteen years. PAL is a non-profit chapter of the California Police Activities League. The PAL board consists of Tulare County Sheriff’s Community Based Officers and civilian volunteers.

 

     PAL’s purpose is to reach underprivileged, at-risk students ranging from 8-12 years of age in the low income bracket residing in the un-incorporated areas of Tulare County. We reach out to children who are trying and doing their best to get good grades, stay out of trouble, and who are trying to be positive role models.  Since this program has been established, the Community Based Officers and the PAL Program have seen a dramatic reduction in crime, drugs, gang activity and an increase of better students in their schools.

 

     We feel that these children should be rewarded and do so in providing several opportunities throughout the year. The annual activities include a camping trip to Pismo Beach and a day at the Tulare County Fair.  We also have a Christmas party where each child receives a PAL sweatshirt, and a visit with Santa who provides a gift. In addition with the funds raised, we purchase approximately 100 bicycles at Christmas time to be given away to children in low income areas throughout the county. We have approximately 200 additional bicycles that have been refurbished to give away as well. This year we are trying to reach a goal of 350 children from 8-12 years of age.  

     

     For the first time, this year the Sheriff’s PAL will be taking several children to the Sierra K-9 Trials in Visalia.  At the trials, the PAL Children will receive event shirts, souvenirs, and lunch.  These are opportunities that children would not get to participate in if it weren’t for the donations that the PAL organization receives throughout the year.

 

     To continue the efforts of the PAL program, we need your help! The committee is seeking donations for bicycles, movies, activities, games, books, age appropriate toys, and any other kid related items that will help us in our effort to benefit the children in our communities.
