Starting in August, bus riders in Tulare County will have to pay a little more when they hop on board. Tuesday morning, Tulare County Supervisors unanimously approved a fifty cent fare increase for fixed routes. It's the first fare hike in 30 years.

County Awarded $2.8 million for Safe Routes to School

In an effort to increase the number of children who walk or bicycle to school, the California Transportation Committee (CTC), has awarded Tulare County with $2.8 million in grants for Safe Routes to School (SRTS) infrastructure improvement projects.  Over 600 projects from across the state of California were submitted with 90 being selected for funding, including two in Tulare County.

Walk 'n Bike Tulare County-Regional Active Transportation Plan

The Tulare County Association of Governments (TCAG) has begun to develop the first Regional Active Transportation Plan (RATP) for the county, called “Walk ‘n Bike Tulare County.” The plan seeks to make walking and biking in Tulare County safer and more convenient. Most importantly, it will identify the highest priority pedestrian and bicycle improvements for the County and its eight cities for the next ten years, and will aim to position those projects to compete well for grant funds. Also, the plan will make up the pedestrian and bicycle component of the Tulare County Regional Transportation Plan.

With the kickoff of the largest agriculture expo this week in Tulare County, innovation in technology is the buzz all across the region. FM89’s Ezra David Romero reports from Pixley where a new project is helping one local dairy turn their waste into biofuel.

About 15 miles south of the World Ag Expo in Tulare, a unique exchange is taking place between a dairy and an ethanol plant. The currency? Think manure.
