Supervisor Pete Vander Poel III serves as Tulare County Supervisor representing District  Two, which includes the City of Tulare, the communities of Allensworth, Alpaugh, Earlimart,  Pixley, Teviston, Tipton, Richgrove, Waukena, and surrounding rural areas. He was first  elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2008 and re-elected in 2012.

Supervisor Vander Poel was born and raised in Tulare County, where he now lives happily  with his wife Ashley and son Pete John. He was educated in the Tulare public school  system, graduating as a Valedictorian from Tulare Union High School. He then went on to  graduate Cum Laude from the College of Honors University of California, Los Angeles, with a  Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and a minor in Accounting. During college, Pete  was in a serious car accident in Tipton in March 2004, which resulted in Pete being in a  coma for 10 days. The doctors’ prognosis was not good, but to everyone’s surprise he fully  recovered, missing school while undergoing six months of rigorous therapy. In the fall of  2004 he returned to UCLA and picked up right where he left off, ultimately graduating on  schedule.

Prior to his election to the Tulare County Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Vander Poel worked full-time as a tax consultant, a financial analyst, and then a company controller.
