Supervisor, District One - Vice Chairman
Supervisor Allen Ishida represents the First District which covers the northeastern portion of Tulare County, including the communities of Exeter, Farmersville, Lemoncove, Lindsay, Strathmore, Three Rivers, East Visalia and portions of Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks and Sequoia National Forest. He was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2004, was re-elected in 2008, and once again in 2012.
Supervisor Ishida is a third generation citrus farmer from the Lindsay-Strathmore area. His family settled in Lindsay in 1909. He is a graduate of Strathmore High School, and graduated from California State University, Fresno with a degree in business administration and a minor in agriculture.
Supervisor Ishida and his wife Wanda live five miles southeast of Lindsay. Ishida has three grown children: Brad, Ken and Barbara. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, camping and snorkeling, also a member and sponsor of Ducks Unlimited. Allen and Wanda enjoy dancing, travel and are season ticket holders for Fresno State University football. Ishida is an Eagle Scout, and has climbed Mt. Whitney from the Western Slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Supervisor Ishida's work experience includes managing county offices in California for the United States Department of Agriculture (Farm Services Agency), sales for the Xerox Corporation and approximately 20 years in the commercial real estate industry -- mostly with Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate Company. Ishida was also a full time farmer before being elected to the Board of Supervisors.
Supervisor Ishida represents the Board of Supervisors on the California State Association of Counties Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee; the Kings/Tulare Area Agency on Aging Governing Board; the Lake Kaweah Enlargement Project; the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO); Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC); Sequoia Yosemite RC&D Council; and the San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority. He serves on the Tulare County Association of Governments Board (TCAG) and represents TCAG on the San Joaquin Valley Regional Policy Council. He also serves on the California Freight Advisory Committee (CFAC) and represents the South Sierra Region on the Sierra Nevada Conservancy. Supervisor Ishida is the Chairman of the Tulare County Water Commission.
